Maxim MG08
The Maschinengewehr 08 was the German Army's standard machine gun in World War I and is a different version of Maxim's original Maxim gun. It was produced in a number of variants during the war.
Facts
The MG08 took four men to operate it.
It could fire 500-600 rounds per minute.
The Machine Gun was prone to overheating when fired for a considerable amount of time.
It was the main machine gun used on German Fighters.
the variant on the Fighters where air-cooled instead of Water-cooled to save weight.
At the end of war the ammunition was changed to Armour-piercing rounds to give units a fighting chance against allied tank attacks but very few where ever issued.
The problem with putting the MG08 in Fighter Aircraft is that the ejected cartridges would hit pilots as they flew past the canopy.
