Gewehr 98
The Gewehr 98 is a German bolt action rifle that fires a 5 round internal clip that was used by the German Army from 1898 to 1935.
Facts
The Gewehr 98 was primarily used in World War I, as well as being used in several colonial wars in years leading up to World War 1.
The problem with the Gewehr 98 is that it was never developed to be used in close quarter trench Warfare. Its iron sights where set for 400 metres so if the man was a 100 metres away the shot would not usually hit unless you adjusted the sights.
During the First World War 15,000 Gewehrs 98's where converted to become Sniper Rifles. These had a Telescopic Scope put on them so the user can be more accurate at distance. In the First World War Telescopic Sights where so new they could be classed as Prototypes of the Modern Scope.
After the First World War the Germans had to redesign the Gewehr 98 to comply with the treaty of Versailles.
