Rifles
A rifle is a firearm designed to be fired from the shoulder, with a barrel that has grooves cut into the barrel walls. When the projectile leaves the barrel, this spin gives it gyroscopic stability to the bullet and stops it tumbling. This makes the rifle far more accurate than a typical 18th century Musket which fires a metal ball, which is not as accurate due to its shape and flight. Also a musket does not generally have grooves except for the American Long Rifle used in the American War of Independence. The word "rifle" originally from the grooving, and a rifle was called a "rifled gun." Rifles are used in warfare, hunting and shooting sports.
